Through this principles of economics course, the program seeks to explain some of the fundamental questions in economics, among them being the nature and type of goods and services produced and distributed, how and producing and distributing agents. The course teaches students the relationship between household behaviors aligned with such supply factors as labor, capital and natural resources and firms on the one hand, and on the other, the process through which consumers purchase goods and services from firms. Students will also be able to investigate how certain firms leverage the process of acquiring production factors, control product costs and determine the optimal output levels to maximize their profits, even as they compete with other firms by making strategic decisions on how to acquire or enter new markets.

This in an introductory course that defines managerial roles and functions, specifically the principles and procedures that guide managerial planning, organization, leadership, and control. It lays emphasis on how one can translate theory into reality and offers students the opportunity to understand the interrelationships that exist among the different managerial functions, disciplines and components. It therefore forms a comprehensive foundation for further studies in organizational management.

This course employs a top-down approach to facilitate student’s understanding of accounting documents and procedures by exposing them to varied financial statements, such as the balance sheet, income and cash flow statements, among others. By conducting an in-depth examination of the different aspects and properties of these financial statements, students can make individual or collective deductions on the practical uses of such information. The course also requires students to participate in discussions and complete assignments that focus on different regulations that guide the process of preparing the said financial statements. For instance, they can learn to compare the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) used in the US with the International Financial Reporting guidelines.

The focus of this course is to ensure that the student can critically examine the fundamentals of probability, descriptive and inferential statistics. Among the learning goals are testing of hypotheses, conducting simple regression and correlational analyses, etc. in addition to focusing the student’s attention to their applicability in business decision-making processes. By using these concepts to analyze hypothetical scenarios, students can learn the real-life practical applications of statistics. Students not only examine the traditional topics such as job design and analysis, employee recruitment, training, compensation and performance appraisal, safety in the workplace, as well as employee health and relations, but also technology-related resources integral to delivering contemporary HR roles and processes. By infusing practical exercises, the course allows students gain the skills necessary to design and draft policies on employment, such as those focused on ethical and legal issues on employment disparities, as well as environmental concerns.

This is a capstone course that seeks to enhance the student’s ability to demonstrate mastery of the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program. It requires students to conduct a simulation-based strategic case study through which they can integrate the different skills, tools, and knowledge in their individual assessment and analysis of real-world scenarios, and eventually recommend feasible solutions. The course allows students to demonstrate their ability to identify complex problems and design workable solution. Also, based on an individual area of concentration, the students will participate in a third-party nationwide simulation/examination to validate the acquired skills.

This course focuses on building the student’s strategic capacity to launch and operate a successful startup or small business by introducing them small business concepts and plans. The students will, in addition to examining business life cycles and available resources, will explore real-world case studies designed to expose them to the challenges often encountered when running such small business ventures. Among the topics covered in the course include business ideas for startups, financing avenues, legal and liability issues, ethical and moral consideration on employment and other business processes, as well as the available opportunities for expansion.

This course introduces the students to the unique aspects that characterize the realm of marketing a small business. Among the areas that students will examine include market definition, product development cycle, strategies that small business can employ to diversify and expand their scope of operation, among others. Also, the course will teach students how to leverage such technological tools as e-commerce, social media, etc. for efficient production and marketing.

This course will focus the student’s attention on how operating decisions affect customer relationships, more so in terms of attracting, maintaining and expanding the customer base and ensuring their loyalty. The students will have the opportunity to assess the approaches used in marketing and managing customer relationships in a way that delivers a competitive advantage to the firm. Also evaluated are the strategies that will ensure customer service excellence driven by culture and designed to meet and exceed customer expectations.

The driving force of a successful business strategy and policy is a factor of effective management of marketing initiatives and knowledgeable leadership. This course therefore seeks to mold students’ creativity in decision-making and give them the expertise to design and implement a strategic marketing program. To be learnt are the fundamental marketing elements and concepts such as marketing mix, distribution channels, industrial and international marketing, among others. The course builds their capacity to understand real-world situations, such as in developing, designing, implementing and controlling a marketing plan by exposing them to current and contemporary case studies, and how to analyze them.

This course introduces students to the foundational concepts of global marketing. They will assess examples and cases drawn from both developing and developed markets, and will focus on such topics as culture and marketing, competition in the local and global arenas, cross-cultural consumer behavior and research, as well as intercultural marketing communications.

Given the difference in the emotional, physical and intellectual needs served by products and services, it follows that marketing a service requires an approach that greatly differs from that used to market a traditional product. As such, marketers must learn the appropriate ways to effectively and strategically market a service to the potential consumers. This course therefore seeks to enable students evaluate the extent to which service and product marketing differ. To achieve this, students will explore different marketing concepts, among them, service marketing mix, total quality management, customer perceptions of services, and the pricing of services. In addition, the course will explore the roles of pricing, the need to adopt certain strategies and the role of service environments in a business setting. For practicality and enhanced understanding, the course requires students to draft a comprehensive plan that explores real-world challenges within the service industry.
